Bonnets and Bowties Garden Party
May 19, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
$85 – $150Heritage Frederick, a cultural and educational nonprofit dedicated to the research and interpretation of Frederick County history, invites the public to its annual garden party on Saturday, May 19, 4:30-7: 30 pm. This year the theme is a Preakness Celebration.
In 1939 a three-year-old colt named Challedon came in first at the Pimlico Special, the Preakness Stakes, and the Classic Stakes. He came in second in the Kentucky Derby. He won the Hollywood Gold Cup in 1940. Challedon was named American Horse of the Year in 1939 and 1940 and inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame. He still holds the Pimlco Special record for most wins by a horse.
Why do we care today? Challedon was bred at Branncastle Farm (later renamed Glad Valley Horse Farm) outside of Walkersville. He’s part of Frederick County history, and the Preakness, held each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, is a solid Maryland tradition.
Heritage Frederick’s Garden Party is a rapidly growing Frederick County tradition. Bonnets & Bowties will be held at Heritage Frederick’s Museum and Heritage Garden at 24 E. Church St. The event will be catered by Canapés and will feature wine and specialty drinks such as the traditional “Black-Eyed Susan.” Music will be performed by Frederick’s own Secondhand Ramblers. Guests will see the event live on TV, and other fun activities are planned.
Admission is $85 per person and $150 per couple. Reservations may be made by May 17.
