Sophia Center Grand Opening

October 5, 2025 – The Sophia Center, Frederick’s first dedicated center for infant loss and perinatal mental health, will celebrate its grand opening on October 5, 2025.  (2p-6p) The Center is home to the newly founded Sophia Ann Charity, a nonprofit created to support families navigating fertility struggles, perinatal loss, postpartum depression, anxiety, and related challenges.

The Sophia Ann Charity was founded on the belief that no family should have to walk this journey alone. The organization offers counseling, free and low-cost support groups, community education, and professional trainings to ensure families receive both compassion and care when they need it most.

“In a world that suddenly feels unsafe, we offer safety. When grief steals your breath, we offer oxygen. When nothing makes sense anymore, we offer grace,” said Elena Griffis, RN, Founder & President of the Sophia Ann Charity.

The Sophia Center will serve as a healing hub and educational space for families, professionals, and the wider community. Programs include:

   •   Support groups and counseling for mothers, fathers, and couples impacted by loss or postpartum mental health challenges.

   •   Professional training and resources for therapists, nurses, and community leaders to better serve families in crisis.

   •   Community outreach and advocacy to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and expand equitable access to maternal mental health care.

The need is urgent. Research shows that 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in loss, 1 in 5 women experience maternal mental health challenges, and fewer than 20% are screened for maternal depression . The Sophia Ann Charity seeks to change these numbers through compassion, education, and community-driven support.

The grand opening celebration will be held at 5728 Industry Lane, Suite B, Frederick, MD, and will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the Center, refreshments, and opportunities to learn more about the mission and programs.
