The Frederick Art Club is sponsoring an exciting evening celebrating the life and legacy of fashion pioneer Claire McCardell! Author Elizabeth Evitts Dickinson will be signing copies of her newly released book, Claire McCardell: The Designer Who Set Women Free, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the C. Burr Artz Public Library, 110 East Patrick Street, Frederick.

McCardell, a Frederick native, revolutionized American fashion with her innovative, functional, and stylish designs that empowered women. Dickinson’s book offers a compelling look at McCardell’s life, impact on the industry and her lasting influence on modern fashion.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the author, hear insights into the book, and explore the legacy of Claire McCardell in her hometown. Allison Tolman, Assistant Director of Collections at a Smithsonian Museum, will introduce Elizabeth and moderate a discussion.

Tickets for this event are $38 and include a signed copy of the book along with a reception featuring Claire McCardell’s favorite treat—angel food cake! Proceeds will benefit The Frederick Art Club’s art scholarship fund.
